When a tooth is infected inflamed or dying, our dentists at Elliott Dental Studio in Clarenville can help treat this and remove the infection with a root canal.
What is a root canal?
Root canal treatment involves the removal of the pulp (nerves and blood vessels) from the inside of an inflamed, infected or dead tooth in order to prevent it from becoming a source of continuing infection.
You can still maintain function after a root canal, which is why your dentist might want to save a tooth.
What might I experience after a root canal treatment?
Slight sensitivity or a mild ache between visits and for a short period after completion of root canal treatment is not uncommon. This discomfort can be managed with medication that your dentist will prescribe for you.
It is often recommended that when a tooth has received root canal treatment, that it be restored with a full crown to preserve the structural integrity of the tooth.
